Skylar Campbell Joins Marin Ballet’s 2025 Nutcracker as Guest Artist
We are so excited to announce that Skylar Campbell, former Principal dancer with The National Ballet of Canada and Houston Ballet, will join our youth cast as a guest artist, dancing the role of the Nutcracker Prince in this year’s Nutcracker performances!
A native Californian, Skylar Campbell joined The National Ballet of Canada in 2009, where he rose to Principal Dancer in 2018. In 2022, he became a Principal with Houston Ballet, performing with the company until embarking on new artistic projects in 2025.
Renowned for his versatility, Campbell has appeared on leading stages worldwide, from the Kennedy Center and the David H. Koch Theater to Staatsoper Hamburg, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, and San Francisco’s War Memorial Opera House. A finalist at the Prix de Lausanne and named one of Dance Magazine’s “Top 25 to Watch,” Campbell founded the Skylar Campbell Dance Collective in 2019, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting artists through performance, curation, and collaboration.
Director Catherine Hader says
“Having a guest artist of Skylar’s caliber is a very rare and special opportunity for our students to rehearse and perform with a professional dancer who exemplifies exceptional technical skills, accomplished artistry and stage presence, that will take our school’s production to a new level.”
Campbell has worked with Marin Ballet’s Resident Choreographer, Julia Adam, and is excited to play this role in her Nutcracker production. Campbell says,
“Julia and I have collaborated on several creations over the years, and while I’m familiar with her delightful version of The Nutcracker, I’ve never been part of it until now. It feels special to carry the history and respect we’ve built together into this new experience.”
In further thoughts about working with the young students at Marin Ballet, Campbell said,
“There’s something really special about The Nutcracker, especially when it’s part of a community that values tradition and creativity the way Marin Ballet does. I’m excited to step into that world, connect with the dancers, and be part of the energy and joy that make this production such a meaningful part of the season.”
