A Perfect Trio @ MOCA

On Friday, May 10th, Marin Ballet will be part of a unique collaboration between the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art in Novato and artist Kathleen Lack, along with her ballet portraits.

MarinMOCA’s Executive Director, Nancy Rehkopf, noted that visitors to the museum consistently express their enthusiasm and desire to see different art genres displayed together. When the museum decided to exhibit Kathleens’ work, it felt like the right fit to include a live performance of ballet dancers to compliment the art work. Nancy sees this presentation as an opportunity to help expand perspectives and stimulate different ways of seeing art.

Kathleen Lack is known for her portrait work, in particular of ballet dancers. Kathleen started coming to Marin Ballet 19 years ago to photograph candid moments of dancers in the studio. She loves the elegant postures, beautiful necklines, and various positions of bodies and feet that dancers make with little effort. All these photos inspired what would become a diverse collection of dance portraits, some of which can be seen hanging on the walls of Marin Ballet. Kathleen was in the MB studios as recent as February 2019 and has used several of those photographs to influence her current collection at MarinMOCA.

Marin Ballet has provided the community with quality ballet training and education for over 55 years. We welcome a chance to not only share our love for ballet, but also enrich our students’ lives with diverse performing opportunities. We are thrilled to have our Level 8 students performing in the upcoming MarinMOCA event “The Art of Dance,” where they will be dancing a piece called “Un Poco Bach,” a delightful dance set to music by Johann Sebastian Bach.

We invite you to join in this unique experience of performing and visual arts coming together… from dance to photo to portrait… and back to dance again:
