PERFORMANCES THEN & NOW
MB'S ART OF DANCE GALLERY

GRADUATE NOTES TO SELF
Due to Covid-19, the eleven dancers of MB’s 2020 graduating class did not dance their final Spring Concert here in the Phyllis Thelen Theater, nor celebrate accomplishments with family and friends at 100 Elm Street as have decades of grads before them. More significantly, they missed being able to dance together in the way that only dancers will understand as a shared goodbye to one another and an homage to their MB experience. In response to this loss, faculty member Casey Thorne worked individually with these dancers to create a performance video true to constraints and opportunities of this time. Each dancer responded to the question: What would I tell my 10-year old dancer self if I could?
2020's Nutcracker Vignettes
Our youth have always been integral to the creative process. They are the ambassadors of holiday cheer, a cheer so contagious it transforms us. Their love of dance continues to be influential in our virtual production. Ms. Adam recalls, “The other day in our Flour rehearsal I had the students turn their heads sideways because one girl was listening to me with her head tilted and I thought it was so funny, so it became a part of the show. Some of it is controlled and of course, like anything, some of it is improvised and spontaneous.”
