The Smith Rafael Center, in collaboration with Marin Ballet, will be screening the indie-documentary film Danseur on Sunday, July 14 at 1:45 pm. We are particularly proud to promote this film because MB Alumnus John Lam is featured among the dancers who share their stories and perspectives. This moving documentary confronts the social stigma of being a boy in ballet, while highlighting his determination to keep dancing in spite of these challenges. This film gives important insight into the process of dance training, as well as the powerful impact of how one transforms stigma into healthy self-efficacy. We’re excited to have Ben Needham-Wood, leading dancer with Smuin Contemporary Ballet and established choreography, as well as Donald Carter, a trainer with the organization No Bully, in person for a Q&A following the film. We encourage dancers and non-dancers, students and teachers, patrons and parents to see this film and hear this discussion. The film lasts 70-minutes.
